BNJ Foundation Announces Opening of First Annual College Scholarship Award Competition

The BNJ FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP for ACHIEVEMENT will award scholarship up to $500 for selected individuals. These scholarships will be available September 1, 2023 to individuals who require educational assistance in order to achieve their academic goals in hope of better employment and increased financial self-sufficiency.

The BNJ College Scholarship Award is open to any degree-seeking student enrolled in an academic program at either the undergraduate or graduate level. All qualified applicants will be selected and awarded a scholarship not to exceed $500. We will retain a pool of alternates who may receive the scholarship for the following year if any of the original recipients do not fulfill the requirement.

The Scholarship

The award is available to undergraduates and graduates, including Canadian and International students. The BNJ Awards Department will determine the scholarship amounts for incoming freshmen and transfer students. To establish the scholarship amount for all undergraduates, ratings will be determined based on the following guidelines:

  • Confirmed U.S. SAT or ACT scores
  • Confirmed U.S. cumulative GPA (following the conclusion of the sixth semester for academy or high school)
  1. Each award will be no more than $500.00
  2. Payments on the award are made on behalf of the scholarship winner directly to an organization providing a service or product, such as a college or university
  3. Funds may be used for payment of educational tuition or select education, books, equipment (such as a computer), or school supplies
  4. of enrollment must be shown before any payment is made
  5. The scholarship award must be used by November 1, 2023

Eligibility

  • Citizens of the United States and Canada, as well as Internationals studying within the US
  • Students whose financial resources are at, near, or below poverty level
  • Students must attend college at least part-time for the 2023-24 school year, as a degree-seeking undergraduate student. Please ask your college how many credit hours you must take to be considered a full-time or part-time student at your school
  • Submit an essay about a subject of your choice
  • The deadline for receipt of essays is July 1st. Works produced either during the year of submission or during the previous calendar year are eligible for the competition
  • Recipients attending part-time will receive up to $250
    Final eligibility will be determined by the student’s college or university in partnership with the BNJ Foundation Team. This scholarship is non-transferable and cannot exceed a student’s cost of attendance for the academic year. This scholarship award is valid for one-year only for the 2023-24 academic year

Application Procedures/Checklist for submission:

  • A certified high school transcript (Request an official high school transcript is mailed to the Office of Admissions, transcript must show grades through the junior year and be mailed directly from the school)
  • Two letters of recommendation (one from a recent teacher and one from a counselor, community leader or employer). If you recently have participated in programs at a non-profit organization, one letter must be from that organization. If you have received a community Achievement Award before and during college study, please submit a copy of your award with your complete application
  • Evidence of acceptance to an accredited college or university
  • If employed include copies of the last 2 months pay stubs
  • Complete, detach and return scholarship application (Scholarship Application Link)
  • Request official ACT or SAT scores be mailed to the Office of Admissions
  • List your community services achievements with dates
  • Submit an essay about the cultural struggles that the USA is facing today and how it could be solved. Submissions at least 2 pages long and all materials must be in English.
  • Mail (postmark) all requested materials on or before July 1, 2023 to:
